The cost of window cleaning depends on the property and the work requested. A small storefront, a multi-story home and a commercial building can all require different amounts of time, access and preparation.
Here are seven factors that can affect an estimate—and the details that are useful to share when requesting one.
1. Number and type of windows
The number, size and style of windows help define the scope of a project. A large picture window, a sliding glass door and a window with many individual panes may each take a different amount of time to clean. An approximate count is a helpful starting point; let us know about unusual shapes or divided panes too.
2. Height and access
The number of stories and the location of the glass can affect how the work is planned. In the Boston area, homes and buildings vary from low-rise properties to multi-story townhouses and commercial spaces. Access, surrounding conditions and the equipment appropriate for the site are considered before the work is confirmed.
3. Interior, exterior or both
Tell us whether you would like the inside, outside or both sides cleaned. Interior work involves arranging access to rooms and windows; exterior work depends on access around the building. The estimate should make the requested scope clear.
4. Screens, tracks, sills and storm windows
Let us know if you would like screens, tracks, sills or storm windows included. These vary from property to property and may require additional work. Deep track cleaning is not automatically included; we’ll discuss the requested items and confirm the scope in your estimate.
5. Obstacles and site conditions
Landscaping, furniture, window air conditioners, narrow access and windows that are difficult to open can affect the approach. Please mention anything that may limit access. We can discuss preparation and any site-specific needs before service.
6. Condition of the glass
Ordinary dirt is different from hard-water staining, construction residue or damaged glass. If you notice paint, mineral deposits, scratches or another concern, share that information and photos if possible. Restoration and construction residue require separate assessment, and results depend on the glass and its condition.
7. Service frequency
Whether you need a one-time cleaning or are interested in recurring service, let us know. The requested frequency, property and scope all help us understand the work and prepare an estimate.
What should you include in your request?
A property address, approximate window count and the type of service you need are a good place to start. Photos can help show the windows and any difficult access. For commercial properties, include any scheduling, access, insurance or vendor requirements you would like us to consider.
Some projects may need additional details, photos or an onsite walkthrough before the scope and price are confirmed.
Comparing estimates
When reviewing a quote, check which surfaces and services are included, whether screens or storm windows are part of the scope, and what access or preparation is expected. If you need insurance documentation or have a concern about a particular window, ask before approving the work.
